Description
In a nutshell:
A smooth, balanced and robust red blend, showcasing ripe black fruit and spice flavours from California.
The lowdown:
This brawny yet silky red blend hails from Petersons dry-farmed Tollini Vineyard in Mendocino. Built around robust Petite Sirah, it's supported by Syrah, with Grenache and Carignan adding zip and spice. It's certainly not a shy wine, but it's brilliantly well balanced. Ripe blackberries and plums stand out, complemented by dried herby notes. As you reach the long, lingering finish, you'll notice hints of cedar and black pepper, rounding off this expressive blend.
The Producer:
Peterson Winery, located in California's Dry Creek Valley, was founded by Fred Peterson in 1987. In 2002 his son Jamie came onboard and the two of them continue to head up this family-owned and operated winery, known for its commitment to producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of their vineyards. They emphasize sustainable farming practices and traditional winemaking techniques, avoiding over-manipulation to let the natural characteristics of the grapes shine through. They produce a range of varietals, including Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petite Sirah, often noted for their complexity, balance, and depth. Their approach which they call "Zero Manipulation", aims to create authentic wines that properly express their Californian origins.
When to drink:
This is a very versatile wine when food matching with; pork, beef or game make particularly good pairings.
