Description
In a nutshell:
A world class aged riesling, simultaneously delicate and full of intense ripe citrus.
The lowdown:
Fans of bottle aged riesling typically look for racy minerality combined with a tangy, lime accentuated acidity. This is a wine that ticks all those boxes with ease. With a pleasing floral aroma, it's wonderfully pure on the palate with notes of lime cordial mix with lemon rind in a deliciously delicate manner and lead up to lovely crisp, dry finish. Named after ex-chief winemaker Andrew Wigan this is has been a consistent trophy winner over the years and the 2015 is a particularly good example. So it's definitely one to snap up.
The Producer:
The name Peter Lehmann is practically synonymous with the Barossa Valley, but it all started with a sticky situation back in 1979. Faced with a glut of grapes and struggling growers, Peter famously offered a deal - "I'll take your grapes and turn them into wine," he said, "but I'll only be able to pay you once it sells." The grateful growers agreed, and many reckon that without this audacious arrangement, the Barossa might have lost a good deal of its precious old vines. Thanks to Peter's sheer determination and savvy, the winery quickly became a Barossa icon, producing wines that made waves both in Australia and abroad. Though Peter himself has since passed on and the company's changed hands, the legacy he built - of crafting some of South Australia's finest - remains untarnished and highly respected.
When to drink:
One to savour on its own or pair it with oysters to see it really sing. It'll continue to age and develop wonderfully.
Suitable for Vegetarians
