The lowdown:
Expect a cascade of tropical fruit from this gorgeous little Torrontés. It's Argentina's signature white grape known for wines with an exotic, aromatic character and crisp tangy backbone and that's no exception here. Bank on getting hints of jasmine and lychee and a sparkling freshness on the tongue - delicious.
The Producer:
Made by the highly regarded Mauricio Lorca who started his career at Argentina's prestigious Catena Zapata winery, followed by stints at Michel Torino in Salta and then as head winemaker at Luigi Bosca in Mendoza. In the early 2000's he set up his own winery in Perdriel a little to the south of Mendoza from where he produces quite a wide range of wines all of which are characteristically well crafted and concentrated, but with real elegance. And the, generally, modest pricing only adds to their appeal.
When to drink:
A wine as fresh as this pairs superbly with fish and shellfish as well as gently spicy asian dishes of all kinds.
