Description
In a nutshell:
Golden, yeasty German Weissbier from Maisel's of Bayreuth, northern Bavaria.
The lowdown:
This is a slightly stronger and darker wheat beer than some. Still made with 50% wheat and now thankfully back in fashion it's also quite spicy with a clove like aroma. Served in a tall vase shaped glass with the yeast poured in to give the characteristic cloudy appearance.
The Brewery:
Brauerei Gebruder Maisel, to give it its full name, was founded in 1887 by brothers Hans and Eberhard Maisel. Four generations on, and the brewery is still very much under family ownership. Maisel are best known for their wheat beer which was introduced in the 1950s. Of late however, the global craft beer trend has arrived in Germany therefore influencing the decline of traditional German beer brewed under the strict purity laws. Recognising this shift, and in a step away from the historic purity laws. The brewery launched Maisel & Friend in 2012 making them a pioneer in the speciality and craft beer market.
Style - German Style Weissbier ABV 5.2% - Moderate Strength
