Description
In a nutshell:
Lustau's flagship bone dry, light and mineral Fino sherry.
The lowdown:
Aged in the coastal town of El Puerto de Santa Maria this is a smooth and elegant Fino with just a tang of salt on a full flavoured and surprisingly fruity palate.
The Producer:
Starting in modest circumstances back in 1896 Lustau originally sold their wines to larger producers rather than market them under their own name. It wasn't until the 1940s that they commenced with their own bottlings and this saw the start of real growth in their reputation. While still a small sherry house by the standards of many they are, nevertheless, one of the most respected and their range of sherries, including the acclaimed Almacenista collection, vermouths and brandies are consistently sought after.
When to drink:
It's a very versatile sherry and serve it well chilled just as an aperitf, or better still with traditional Spanish tapas.
