Description
In a nutshell:
One of the 6 official Oktoberfest beers from Munich's Lowenbrau brewery.
The lowdown:
Light and golden and one of the oldest Oktoberfest beers. Löwenbräu brew one of the most famous of the six official Oktoberfest beers and it's served at the festival every year. It's a fresh, light, amber Marzen style beer and just one of the six beers permitted at the festival itself.
The Brewery:
Records indicate the existence of the original Löwenbräu brewery in Munich as far back as 1383. The brewery, with one of the city's oldest beer gardens, is still right in the centre of Munich despite several attempts to move it further out. The first real evidence of the brewery relates to tax records of 1746 when the company's famous lion emblem made its first appearance on labels. The depiction of the lion was lifted from an ornate fresco within the 17th century brew house. A leap in popularity in the 18th century cemented Löwenbräu as the most popular in Munich.
Style - Bock, Marzen & Festbiers ABV 6.1% - Strong
