Description
In a nutshell:
A funky, crunchy and juicy medium-bodied Australian Pinot Noir from a boutique producer based near Melbourne.
The lowdown:
Made from hand picked fruit and naturally fermented in small open vats before being aged in French oak barrels this is a wine made in Lethbridge's signature style. It's full of rich and vibrant fruit flavours of cherries, plums and wild berries with a layer of complex earthy and spicy notes running through as well. There are also hints of orange peel and a touch of savouriness. In all everything is silky smooth with an engaging and enduring finish.
The Producer:
Lethbridge Wines was founded in the mid-1990s by three medical academics, Ray Nadeson, Maree Collis and Arian Thomas, whose passion for wine ended up taking priority over their passion for science. They're based in the small town of Lethbridge about 40km west of Melbourne. Firm believers in the concept of terroir and minimal intervention their avowed aim is to produce the best wines they can that express the unique character of their origins. Prior to getting going they went to great lengths to find they best vineyard sites they could. Their philosophy also encompasses practicing organic techniques influenced by Biodynamic principles. Being only a small producer the quantities they make each year are quite restricted. Coupling this with the cult following they've built up in the home country means that only small allocations are exported to the UK and we're pleased to be able to get a few of them on our shelves.
When to drink:
A very likeable Aussie Pinot Noir that's great all by itself or with poultry, or feathered game.
