Description
In a nutshell:
A classic, pale and refreshing Manzanilla.
The lowdown:
Manzanilla, like Fino sherry, is pale, light, dry and tangy style of sherry usually drunk well chilled as an aperitif. Because they're aged by the sea in the town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda Manzanilla is always reckoned to have a slightly saline, briny edge. La Guita is aged for an average of 4-5 years and made predominantly with grapes sourced from the renowned Miraflores vineyards in the locality. It's bracingly dry, fresh and tangy with flavours of apple, almond, green olives and hints of a chalky minerality. The finish is nicely clean and fresh with a subtle nutty hint.
The Producer:
La Guita Manzanilla has been produced at Bodegas Hijos de Rainera Perez Martin in the coastal town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda since 1852 and, apart from some occasionally seen Amontillado, accounts for pretty much everything made there. The La Guita brand is one of the best known ther is and it remains very popular both in Spain and abroad.
When to drink:
The quintessential Manzanilla, simply serve it well chilled with some salted almonds and green olives.
