Description
In a nutshell:
A light bodied Bacchus with loads of aromatic flavours, from West Sussex.
The lowdown:
Some of the best English whites are made from Bacchus. It's a grape that originated in Germany, but with the rise of the English wine industry has more than proven its worth this side of the Channel. This example from Kinsbrook Vineyard of West Chiltington in the Sussex South Downs certainly shows how good it can be. The grapes were whole bunch pressed and clarified in stainless steel tanks to intensify the bright, floral aromas. The acidity is well balanced by the slightly higher natural sugar levels and the subtle vanilla bean notes on the nose. It's a very easily drinkable wine that expresses notes of elderflower and blossom to create a well-rounded character.
The Producer:
Kinsbrook Vineyard, near Thakeham in West Sussex, has come a long way since its 2017 beginnings under the stewardship of Joe Beckett and Rebecca Dancer. From a modest start, they've expanded impressively, now boasting over 56,000 vines. Their diverse range of wines includes sparkling, reds, whites, and rosés. But it's not just about the wine. The vineyard is a lovely spot to visit, with a spectacular double-height barn that hosts their cosy restaurant and farm shop. And if you're curious about where the fruit comes from, you can book a tour of the vineyard too.
When to drink:
While great to drink alone it also works well with things like fish dishers or Thai green curries.
Suitable for Vegans
