The lowdown:
The cool climate growing conditions on Tasmania make it a good place for sparkling wine production which is what Jansz have been doing since 1986 and they're responsible for some of the best sparklers to come from here. This is a blend of 53% Chardonnay, 44% Pinot Noir and a little Pinot Meunier which is given a lengthy lees ageing before disorgement allowing it to develop flavour, complexity and depth. It's got lovely, honeyed apple fruit aromas which mingle with stone fruit, citrus and complex, yeast lees flavours. Rich and creamy on the palate with a delicate fizz and plenty of vibrant acidity on the finish, it's also fresh and elegant with great length.
When to drink:
An easy Champagne alternative this makes the ideal aperitif sparkler and, well chilled, is also good with seafood and shellfish.
