Description
In a nutshell:
From sunny Puglia, this vibrant and youthful Negroamaro is generous with the juicy dark berries, and with a hint of spice, and a smooth, easy-going finish its hard to resist.
The lowdown:
In Puglia, Negroamaro sits a bit in the shadow of Primitivo, but it's a grape that shines in its own right - especially in this fruit-forward, unoaked style. Vinified and aged in stainless steel, it's all about showcasing the grape's natural juiciness and purity. Despite its name, which might suggest something dark and heavy, this is anything but. Soft and silky, it's bursting with juicy red fruit, a touch of fresh herbs, and a subtle hint of earthy spice making it bright, vibrant, and refreshingly approachable.
The Producer:
In 1962, 19 vine growers from San Marzano, deep in the Puglian heel of Italy, whose families had farmed the land for generations, combined their efforts to establish Cantine San Marzano. Through the decades this co-operative has grown significantly and can now boast over 1,200 members and has a reputation for quality that has earned international renown. They are based just east of the town of Taranto in the region of Salento. The Cantine's director Mauro di Maggio is a native of this part of the world and grew up with a connection to the winery before going to work there in 2003. As a result, he knows his members well and his close working relationships with them has helped keep the quality of fruit supplied to the winery at high levels.
When to drink:
Its expressive, well-balanced character makes it a great match for grilled lamb chops, spicy sausages, or even tender duck breast, with enough fruit and freshness to handle bold flavours.
Suitable for Vegans
