Description
In a nutshell:
Pure and precise, this English Blanc de Blancs features vibrant citrus, green apple, and a subtle mineral backbone, finished with an elegant, silky sparkle.
The lowdown:
Blanc de Blancs, always made exclusively from Chardonnay, is a style known for its elegance, finesse, and crisp minerality, and this example is no exception. The fruit comes from handpicked parcels in Gusbourne's vineyards in Appledore, Kent, and Goodwood, West Sussex. While most of the wine is fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness, a small portion is aged in old oak barrels, adding a touch of complexity. After at least 42 months on its lees, it emerges with delicate bubbles and aromas of green apple, citrus, and mineral notes, complemented by hints of buttered toast and tarte tatin. Smooth and creamy, it finishes long and bright with a clean citrus edge.
The Producer:
Gusbourne Estate began its journey in 2004 when South African Andrew Weeber planted vineyards in the village of Appledore, Kent, with the dream of crafting world-class English Sparkling Wine. The first bottles followed in 2010, and the rest is history. Set on south-facing slopes of the Kentish escarpment, the vineyards are home to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. From day one, the vision was to create some of England's very best wines, backed by major investment and a talented team. Fast forward to today, and you'll Gusbournes wines served at many of the UK's top restaurants, a testament to their achievements.
When to drink:
With its zesty citrus and mineral finesse, it's the ideal partner for freshly shucked oysters or buttery Dover sole meunière - think of it as seafood's posh best friend.
