Description
In a nutshell:
The well known French liqueur which is a delicate blend of Cognac and the distilled essence of tropical oranges.
The lowdown:
Cordon Rouge is Grand Marnier's original, and signature, blend of 51% Cognac and 49% Orange Liqueur which is famous the world over. It's matured in large oak vats for six months allowing the elements to properly marry together before bottling. With creamy vanilla aromas and hints of candied peel, the bitterness of the oranges and the warmth of the cognac form an undeniably winning combination. Superb on the rocks, in a range of cocktails, or decadently poured over crêpes suzettes.
The Producer:
Established in 1827 by Jean Baptiste Lapostollein, Grand Marnier's first distillery was in Neauphle-le-Château, a small city outside of Paris. In 1876 Jean Baptiste's granddaughter Julia married Louis-Alexandre Marnier and La Maison Marnier Lapostolle was born. In 1880 Louis-Alexandre came up with the idea of combining Cognac with a rare variety of bitter orange from the Caribbean which was the beginning of Grand Marnier as we know it today. A few years later its distinctive bottle together with the red ribbon and wax seal was trademarked which has become their flagship Cordon Rouge liqueur. In 2016 the brand was acquired by the Campari Group.
