Description
In a nutshell:
A smooth and well balanced reposado tequila made using 100% Blue Agave.
The lowdown:
Reposado Tequilas are aged for up to a year in oak barrels and so, like this example from Gran Centenari, generally have a very pale straw colour acquired from the barrels. This is made from 10-12 year old Blue Agave plants harvested in the Jaliscan Highlands and aged for six months in French Limousin oak. It's got a touch of fruit on the nose, with sweet tones of cooked agave and light hints of oak, toasted almonds, vanilla, and clove. A classic, well balanced flavoursome Tequila Reposado.
The Producer:
Gran Centenario was established in 1857 by a tavern owner and tequila producer named Lázaro Gallardo. He used an innovative and proprietary process called Selección Suave, blending the richest and smoothest tequilas to yield a product of exceptional quality and taste. In the 1920s Lázaro's son Luciano began bottling the tequila and inspired by the Art Deco style of architecture designed the distinctive style of bottle still in use today.
