Description
In a nutshell:
A quite full-bodied style of Gamay from the area where Burgundy and Beaujolais collide.
The lowdown:
Concentrated, full of bright berry fruitiness, fresh minerality and gentle tannins in this is a very pleasing wine where everything's in perfect harmony. It's a fuller style of Gamay which leans to a Burgundian more than Beaujolais style. The area where the vineyards are situated was once mined for manganese and remnants of this blue-veined mineral under the ground might well provide the special underlying tonality you'll find in the wine. In any event just enjoy its simple pleasures.
The Producer:
Genetie is an intriguing venture in Burgundy's Mâconnais, led by Samantha Bailey, a winemaker who knows the ins and outs of this area's vineyards extremely well. Her aim is to create wines that capture the essence of southern Burgundy - a region often in the shadow of its more famous northern counterparts. These wines have a quiet elegance; theyre well-crafted and unpretentious, with a focus on flavour rather than fuss.
When to drink:
A very versatile wine which - just a suggestion - works all the way through from a starter of paté on toast to roast pork and then on to the cheese plate.
Suitable for Vegans
