Description
In a nutshell:
Golden Blend takes the depth and richness of classic Oude Gueuze to another level, with layers of complexity and a beautifully balanced tang.
The lowdown:
Oude Gueuze is traditionally a blend of aged lambics, but this one goes above and beyond, including lambics aged up to 4 years for even greater depth and complexity. The aromas are layered with citrus zest, green apple, hay, and delicate oak, while the palate delivers vibrant acidity, a touch of rustic undergrowth, and a long, dry finish. A true testament to 3 Fonteinen's blending artistry, it's fantastic with roast game birds or nutty cheeses like Comté or Gruyère.
The Brewery:
In Belgium, where beer is practically a way of life, the Lambics and Gueuze beers of the Zenne valley stand out as something special - and Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen is one of the most outstanding practitioners. It all started back in 1953, when Gaston Debelder opened a bar and restaurant in Beersel. He became known for blending lambics from other brewers, earning himself a loyal following. Leap forward to 1998, and the family decided it was time to start brewing their own. These days, they're one of the few brewing and ageing their lambics completely in-house, sticking to traditional methods while adding their own inventive touch. Their beers are distinctive and special and worth looking out for.
Style - Lambic & Traditional Sours ABV 7.2% - Strong
