Description
In a nutshell:
Chilean Cabernet with true finesse, offering the structure and elegance of a fine Bordeaux at a considerably kinder price.
The lowdown:
A superior Chilean red that punches above its weight, this is a classic Bordeaux blend with a modern twist. Ripe blackcurrant and plum fruit mingle with a touch of floral character, all underpinned by a streak of minerality. The tannins are silky and well-integrated, giving the wine a smooth, lingering finish. Crafted from meticulously chosen grapes in the Aconcagua Valley, the blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon, with dashes of Carmenere, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Aged for 22 months in French oak, two-thirds new, it shows subtle hints of spice alongside the dark fruit. This is a fresh, well-made and undeniably classy wine.
The Producer:
Viña Errazuriz was founded in 1870 by Don Maximiano Errazuriz, a man with a keen eye for terroir. He saw potential in the Aconcagua Valley's cool winters, hot summers and cooling Pacific breezes, and transformed barren land into a world-class vineyard. Today, his descendant Eduardo Chadwick, the fifth generation at the helm, continues the focus on quality. Modern winemaking techniques sit alongside a dedication to preserving the estate's unique character. Look out for their estate-grown wines - they're a testament to Errazuriz's enduring place amongst Chile's leading family-owned producers.
When to drink:
This full-bodied, youthful wine is drinking well now but will develop complexity through the late 2020s. Decant and pair with a hearty roast or game dish for a thoroughly satisfying experience.
Suitable for Vegans
