Description
In a nutshell:
Lively, mineral white from Attica with sharp citrus, a savoury edge, and a bright, dry finish.
The lowdown:
Assyrtiko might be best known from the island of Santorini, but it thrives on the mainland too - especially here, just outside Athens. Grown in poor, stony soils and harvested early to retain acidity, it's a wine that majors on freshness. There's lemon peel, green apple, a hint of salinity, and a clean, linear structure that keeps everything taut. No oak, no fluff, just clarity and bite. Fermented cool and kept on fine lees for texture, it's a crisp, precise white that's hard to put down.
The Producer:
Domaine Papagiannakos sits in the heart of Attica, just east of Athens, where vine-covered hills meet the Aegean breeze. Founded in 1919, the estate is now run by Vassilis Papagiannakos, who brings fresh energy to this third-generation family winery. Old vines of Savatiano and Malagouzia thrive in the regions dry, sunlit soils, producing wines full of clarity and character. Tradition runs deep here, but the approach is forward-lookingsustainable in the vineyard and modern in the cellar. A true reflection of Attica, past and present.
When to drink:
Spot on with seafoodgrilled prawns, calamari, or a slab of white fish with lemon and herbs. Its bright acidity and saline edge cut through oils and highlight delicate flavours without swamping them. Also works well as a palate-sharpener with nibbles.
Suitable for Vegans
