Description
In a nutshell:
This silky and vibrant California Pinot Noir offers ripe cherry, cranberry, subtle spice, and a hint of earthy elegance.
The lowdown:
In the southern gap between Napa and Sonoma, Domaine Carneros may be known for its sparkling wines, but they set aside a little Pinot Noir to create a few fresh, lively reds like this. Made in a Burgundian style but with a ripe, silky California twist, it's fermented in small open-topped tanks and aged for eight months in French oak barrels. The nose bursts with cherry and raspberry, while the palate is silky smooth, full of vibrant, spiced fruit. Light, bright, and effortlessly drinkable, it's a delicious take on Pinot Noir that combines elegance with a touch of California sunshine.
The Producer:
Perched at the southern end of Napa Valley, Domaine Carneros is hard to miss with its grand French château-style winery overlooking the Sonoma Highway. Founded in 1987 by the family behind Champagne Taittinger, the estate was established to craft Californian wines that could rival their exceptional Champagnes. The vineyards span over 150 hectares, all close to the château, with two-thirds planted to Pinot Noir and the rest to Chardonnay. While renowned for their impressive sparkling wines, they also produce excellent still reds from their Pinot Noir vines, showcasing the estates commitment to quality and its blend of French tradition and Californian flair.
When to drink:
Serve cellar cool to bring out its silky texture and vibrant flavours - perfect alongside grilled salmon or roasted pork tenderloin.
Suitable for Vegans
