In a nutshell: Fresh, juicy and fruity organic Italian-Australian red from the Riverland.
The lowdown: A new approach to wines from the Riverland region of South Australia. Delinquente Wine Co founder and winemaker Con-Greg Grigoriou has taken advantage of some of the Riverland's small vineyards growing southern Italian varieties as the climates between this area of South Australia and the south of Italy are quite similar - very hot and not a lot of rain. 'Roxanne' is a blend of Sicilian grape Nero d'Avola and Puglian Negroamaro from a single organically farmed vineyard with red sandy loam soils. The grapes are picked early and undergo a wild fermentation in an open stainless steel vat, before four months ageing in again stainless steel and bottled unfined and unfiltered, no oak used as this wine is all about the freshness and purity of the fruits. Loads of fresh, juicy and crunchy fruit notes of wild strawberry, raspberry and sour cherry with a super refreshing amaro-esque savoury bitterness, grippy tannins and crisp acidity.
When to drink: Can work well slightly chilled. Try with cold meats and cheeses, barbecues and fatty meat dishes.
