Description
In a nutshell:
An intense, deep Shiraz from Australia's Barossa Valley, packed with bold dark fruit and layered with hints of spice and smooth, velvety tannins.
The lowdown:
The Barossa Valley has been home to bold Shiraz since Victorian times, and this is a cracking example. Made from old, gnarly vines thriving in ancient soils, it spends 18 months in a mix of new and used oak barriques. The result? Bold black fruits, a touch of eucalyptus, and a hint of liquorice on the nose. On the palate, it's rich and juicy with wine gum sweetness, a lick of spice, pepper, and a bit of mocha. Smooth and supple, with fine tannins and a long finish, it's everything you want from a Barossa Shiraz - and great value.
The Producer:
Dandelion Vineyards is a venture created by Zar Brooks and his winemaking wife Elena. They have a range of South Australia vineyard sites from the Eden and Barossa valleys down to the Fleurieu peninsula from where they make their well-regarded wines. Elena has achieved, in a short space of time, a remarkable degree of success which has helped to put Dandelion firmly on the map. And they continue to go from strength to strength with a range of wines which are notably good value for money.
When to drink:
Perfect with a summer barbie - think chargrilled steak or sticky BBQ ribs - or a winter roast with all the trimmings. Its bold fruit and spice stand up beautifully.
Suitable for Vegans
