Description
Italy: Piedmont
Fruity & Bright White
Dry - Medium-Full Body - Unoaked
Vegan - ABV 14.0% - 75.0cl
In a Nutshell:
A Piedmontese rarity - Timorasso. It's mineral, savoury and textured, with real breadth and individuality.
The Lowdown:
Picture the taut minerality of Loire Chenin colliding with Riesling's aromatic lift, then delivered in a richer, more textural frame - that's the character of Timorasso. Grown on the Colli Tortonesi hills of south-east Piedmont in Mariotto's Bricco San Michele vineyard, it spends a year on lees, which lends depth and a savoury edge to its citrus, stone fruit and herbal notes. Mouthfilling yet precise, it's a striking reminder that Piedmont does whites with as much individuality as its reds.
The Producer:
Founded in the 1920s by great-grandfather Bepi, Claudio Mariotto's family have been making wine in the Tortona hills of Piedmont for generations. Today the winery is run and managed by Claudio, with the help of his partner Rossana, his brother Marco and his mother Piera. Their vines are in the municipalities of Tortona and Sarezzano where they work solely with native grape varieties, including Freisa, Croatina, and Barbera, but their real focus, their passion, and the majority of their production is dedicated to Timorasso. He has become a benchmark producer of this varietal, producing authentic wines, with lots of personality.
When to Drink:
Well matched with seafood risotto, grilled trout or goat's cheese, where its mineral weight balances richness.
