Description
In a nutshell:
South African Chenin Blanc in delightfully pure form - bright, textured, and shaped by the vineyard.
The lowdown:
No fiddling, no frippery - just Chenin Blanc doing its thing in classic South African style. From dry-farmed bush vines on Paarl's granite slopes, this is a wine shaped by soil, sun, and not much else. Wild-fermented and left to age for 12 months in old oak barrels, it's all texture and tension - citrus peel, blood orange, a touch of grip, and a savoury, mineral streak running through. It's got real character and clarity, the sort of wine that speaks more of its vineyard, than the winery.
The Producer:
Wildeberg Wines, nestled in South Africa's Franschhoek valley, thrive under the watchful eye of winemaker JD Rossouw. Here they craft their wines from both local vineyards and those further afield. As part of South Africas Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) system, their practices are environmentally friendly, and their participation in the Cape's Old Vine Project highlights their commitment to preserving vines over 35 years old. JD also experiments with lesser-known varieties and cutting-edge techniques, showcased under their SKU (Strange Companjie Unlimited) label. They're good for a fresh and innovative take on things.
When to drink:
Loves anything with lemon, herbs, or a bit of sizzle - grilled prawns, tarragon chicken, or a herby veg bake. Chill it but skip the ice bucket though - it's got texture worth tasting.
Suitable for Vegans
