Description
In a nutshell:
A wonderfully well-natured Claret which is ripe, balanced and supple.
The lowdown:
Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are the two 'big' varieties in Bordeaux and both of those are used to good effect in this spot-on petit château claret. Merlot gets the major role giving a luscious fruity aroma while the supporting Cabernet Sauvigon adds a timely touch of leather, herbs and cassis to the mix. The easy going tannins make it very nicely balanced in the mouth and, taken altogether, it provides a lot of bang for its buck.
The Producer:
Château de Marsan can be found in the village of Lestiac-sur-Garonne a short drive south of Bordeaux. The history of wine production here goes back as far as the 17th century and under the current ownership who've been at the helm since the early 1960s it's an excellent source of claret you can rely on.
When to drink:
Fighting fit and fully ready to drink, it's ideal with red meats or poultry.
