Description
In a nutshell:
Soft red fruits, a hint of spice, and a smooth finish - good value Bordeaux at its most charming.
The lowdown:
A fine example of what the Entre-Deux-Mers does best, this is an inviting blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in a mix of oak barriques and stainless steel for a perfectly balanced, early drinking Claret. The nose offers blackcurrant aromas laced with hints of mint, thyme, cedar, and a touch of oak spice. On the palate, it's medium-bodied with earthy, spicy black fruit flavours, nicely complemented by gentle oak and well-integrated tannins. Easy-going yet full of character.
The Producer:
Vignobles Ducourt, from Ladaux in the heart of Bordeaux's Entre-Deux-Mers, has grown from small beginnings in the 1950s under Henri Ducourt into quite a substantial operation. Now spanning 14 châteaux and 450 hectares, it's still very much a family affair, with Henri's grandchildren Bernard, Philippe, and Marie Christine steering the ship. Their vineyards follow the agriculture raisonnée system, favouring minimal intervention and cutting back on artificial pesticides - an approach that pays dividends in the glass. The range is as impressive as it is approachable, offering excellent quality without breaking the bank.
When to drink:
It's spot on with Limousin lamb cutlets or a duck and chestnut pâté - rustic dishes that let its soft red fruit and gentle spice shine without overcomplicating things.
