Description
France: Bordeaux, Left Bank
Complex & Structured Red
Medium-Full Body - Oaked
Vegan - ABV 13.5% - 75.0cl
In a Nutshell:
A classic Saint-Estèphe that balances the appellation's power with a rounded, approachable character.
The Lowdown:
Out of the Left-Bank Clarets, Saint-Estèphe is known for good backbone, well-defined tannins and the capability to develop complexity and roundness. Beau-Site, which neighbours Grand Cru Calon-Ségur, measures up to that pretty well. Predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, it spends sixteen months in barrique, drawing out cedar with an earthy edge while cherries and cranberries lead on the palate. With a soft spiciness and smooth, ripe tannins, it's got good balance, proper depth, and finishes with an elegance that shows off Saint-Estèphe's best qualities.
The Producer:
Taking its name from the favourable location it enjoys boasting stunning views over the Gironde estuary, Château Beau-Site can trace its history back to the 18th century. It's owned by one of the region's major negociants, Borie-Manoux and the Casteja family, alongside an array of other prestigious Bordeaux chateaux. The vineyards extend to 40 hectares of which nearly three-quarters is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon. They typically age their wines in about 50% new oak for around 12-15 months.
When to Drink:
It's at its best right now and will stay that way for the next decade. It pairs perfectly with lamb, poultry, and red meats.
