Description
Champagne
Brut
ABV 12.0% - 75.0cl
In a Nutshell:
Fresh, fruit-driven Marne Valley Grower Champagne with Pinot Meunier taking the lead, lifted by Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
The Lowdown:
Of Champagne's three main grapes, Pinot Meunier is the least known, but in the Marne Valley it comes into its own. Here it forms the backbone of Olivier Père's Origine Brut cuvée, supported by smaller shares of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay - nearly a Blanc des Noirs, though not quite. Lees ageing brings breadth and polish to its ripe orchard and stone fruit flavours, sharpened by citrus lift and a discreet nutty depth on a finely balanced frame.
The Producer:
Champagne Olivier Père et Fils has been based in Trélou-sur-Marne since the early 1900s, when the family began as growers before striking out under their own label in the 1960s. Now in the hands of brothers Julien and Bertrand, the fourth generation, the house is known for Champagnes that are precise yet expressive, very much shaped by their corner of the Marne Valley. Their 11 hectares of south-facing clay-limestone slopes are prime Pinot Meunier territory, and it remains the grape at the heart of their style.
When to Drink:
Best with seafood, charcuterie or soft cheeses; the fresh cut and fruit-driven style work seamlessly.
