Description
In a nutshell:
A wonderfully elegant, rounded, fruity and fresh white from the South Tyrol of northern Italy.
The lowdown:
Terlaner Cuvée is a blend of 60% Pinot Bianco, 30% Chardonnay, 10% Sauvignon Blanc - three of Terlano's most traditional varieties - hand picked and selected and then matured for 6 months on its lees. Bright green apple, peach and citrus aromas lead onto a soft and rich palate with stone and tropical fruit notes, touches of spice and a fresh chalky minerality. Balanced with a long finish, this is a very well put together wine.
The Producer:
Founded in the late nineteenth century by 24 small family growers Cantina Terlano are now recognised as one of the oldest and best cooperatives in not only the Alto Adige but all of northern Italy. Located in the heart of Terlan wine growing region near the foot of Mt Tschöggel and surrounded by mountains this area has a unique microclimate coupled with rich schist soils that lends itself to producing some of Italy's longest-lived whites.
When to drink:
Lovely and fresh now though has the capacity to age for 5+ years. Pairings include white asparagus, focaccia with rosemary, pasta with tomato sauce or traditional South Tyrolean dishes like bacon dumplings or sausage with sauerkraut.
