Description
In a nutshell:
A delicious, rounded natural wine from central Spain.
The lowdown:
Lirondo is from a single small plot of 25-30 year old Verdejo trained on trellis wires. Farmed organically, and beyond, when really ripe the fruit is harvested by hand before being gently pressed and fermented with wild yeasts and without the use of sulphur. It's then kept on its lees for 8 months and is bottled unfined and unfiltered. Stone fruit, bakery and brioche aromas lead onto a soft and weighty palate with a great mineral character, balanced acidity and fresh bitter touches. Even though this is made as naturally as possible - you may find a little sediment in the bottle - this certainly isn't a weird 'out there' wine. It's quite simply very tasty and flavoursome.
The Producer:
Manuel Cantalapiedra of Cantalapiedra Viticultores tends around 20 hectares of Verdejo vines near La Seca in Rueda, all cultivated ecologically and sustainably. Hes got a clear vision for his wines, and while he remains loyal to his Rueda roots, he skips the regions appellation to craft his wines his way. In the winery, hes as hands-off as possible, letting the grapes speak for themselves. His passion and skill shine through in his diverse expressions of Verdejo, each bottle a testament to his commitment to natural winemaking. Its a straightforward yet profound approach, producing wines that are both unique and true to their origin.
When to drink:
With an appealingly warm feeling aroma this is one to try with rice dishes, seafood, and poultry
Suitable for Vegans, Organic
