The Lowdown:
This breezy white opens with bright citrus and a hint of something floral - think wildflowers, rather than perfume. It's got a lovely freshness to it, with flavours of crisp apples and pears, plus a subtle earthiness that reminds you where it came from. Rueda sits north of Madrid, in a dusty part of Spain where the Verdejo grape feels right at home. It's lively and zingy, but there's a bit of weight to it too, making it surprisingly satisfying on its own. Definitely a crowd-pleaser.
The Producer:
Bodega Díaz Bayo is all about family and delicious wine. These are the folks behind Nuestro Wines, and they're based in the heart of Spain's Ribera del Duero region. Think bold reds made from Tempranillo grapes - that's their speciality. They're rooted in their hometown of Fuentelcesped, which means they really know their stuff. And if you're in the mood for something lighter, they make some cracking white wines from the Rueda region, too.
When to Drink:
A chilled bottle of this crisp white is perfect with a plate of tapas or just by itself to kick off a relaxing evening.
