Bright aromas of strawberry and cranberry are balanced by subtle autumnal, earthy notes, giving it real character. A couple of months in oak lend a touch of depth, perfectly complementing the juicy red fruit that runs right through to a smooth, elegant finish. For a Pinot Noir at this price, it's tough to beat.

Back in the late 1980s, as Romania began to emerge from behind the Iron Curtain, three families decided to take on a challenge: reviving a rundown, state-owned winery and 650 hectares of neglected vineyards. What started as a bold gamble has, thanks to Englishman Philip Cox and his Romanian wife Elvira, grown into Cramele Recas the most successful winery in Romania. Today, the estate is widely recognised for its scale, modernity, and an impressively diverse range of wines. From organic natural and orange wines to approachable everyday bottles, they focus on producing wines that consistently over-deliver. Despite their size, the ethos is rooted in quality and innovation, with state-of-the-art facilities that embrace both tradition and experimentation. Their open-minded approach, coupled with a skill for crafting wines with character, certainly sets them apart.
When to drink:
Perfect with roast chicken or a cosy mushroom risotto - the soft red fruit and hint of earthiness work a treat. Serve it at a cool room temperature.
