In a nutshell:
A big, but not overpowering Primitivo from Puglia deep in Italy's southern heel.
The lowdown:
The vineyards from where this wine comes are in an area known as Gioia del Colle where Benedictine monks begain growing Primitivo grapse as far back as the early 1700s. Fermented and aged for a year in stainless steel before bottling it's bursting with ripe berry fruits. There's a touch of elegance on the palate helped along by the hint of soft tannins.
The Producer:
In the early 1990s brothers Beniamino and Alberto d'Agostino converted the local Cantina Social, or Cooperative, in Gravina situated in inland Puglia into a modern winery with the aim of bringing a higher profile to the wines of the heel of Italy thus creating Botromagno. And in the intervening years they've been at the forefront of Apulian producers who've demonstrated the excellent quality of which the region of capable. Their vineyards are located across the province and they make wines, both reds and white, using many of the indigenous grape varieties found in this part of the world.
When to drink:
And while it has plenty of body it doesn't overdo it which means it goes well with roasted meats, or rich pasta dishes.
