Description
In a nutshell:
A quintessential cool climate Pinot Noir from the heart of the Sussex countryside.
The lowdown:
From Bolney Estate in Sussex this is a fresh and fragrant light to medium bodied wine which is full of red cherry flavours and hints of cedar and toasted oak which give a lovely complexity to the overall bouquet and palate. It's gentle, soft tannins give it good balance as it signs off with smooth and creamy finish.
The Producer:
Bolney Estate was established back in 1972 which predates the more recent upsurge in the English wine industry. However, under Sam Linter, daughter of founders Janet and Rodney, who now heads up the winemaking operations the estate has kept its finger on the pulse of modern practices and standards. Without doubt Bolney ranks among the foremost of English wine estates in both quality and ambition and they've done much to raise the reputation of English wine as a whole. Since 2022 theyve been part of the Henkell Freixenet group, a global leader in sparkling wines.
When to drink:
Light with an interesting complexity it goes well with chicken, rabbit and other game dishes.
