Description
In a nutshell:
A bright and aromatic organic red from Patagonia in the dry south of Argentina.
The lowdown:
This isn't your typical Argentinian red - it's not a Malbec and it comes from off the beaten track in the southern region of Patagonia. It's also made from a fairly obscure grape variety, Trousseau, that originates in the French Jura region. Patagonia is a cooler and low yielding region and is good for light and perfumed wines as this organically farmed example amply demonstates. With notes of strawberries and raspberries and a touch of soft spice it's wonderfully bright and well balanced with soft tannins to give it excellent structure. This is a really good example of what is a little known grape variety.
The Producer:
Bodega Miras, situated near the banks of the Rio Negro in the town of Cipolletti is where Marcelo Miras operates things in Argentina's arid Patagonian heartland. It's a very different environment to the much larger region of Mendoza to the north. Here summer temperatures don't reach the same heights and the nights are cool, ideal for the fresh, delicate and aromatic wines which are their forte. The dryness of the climate gives good protection from a host of diseases which is great for organic cultivation which theyre very much into and which shines through in all their wines.
When to drink:
At its best very slightly chilled. It's absolutely great by itself and also goes well with oily fish dishes.
Suitable for Vegans, Organic
