Description
In a nutshell:
Light, fruity and fun to drink - just what Beaujolais Nouveau should be like.
The lowdown:
Bright, juicy and bursting with ripe red fruits, this is pretty much as fresh a wine as you're likely to taste. Beaujolais Nouveau is a simple, uncomplicated pleasure and this certified organic example fully fits the bill. The crunchy red fruit is pepped up with some spicy, earthy notes and rounds off with a clean, crisp minerality. Beaujolais Nouveau is released each year on the third Thursday of November. OK, it's a bit of 'retro' thing these days, but good clean fun all the same. And it's not a bad drop either.
The Producer:
Domaine de la Couvette is a small estate tucked into the gently rolling countryside of southern Beaujolais and it's the very picture of what a small vigneron's property ought to look like. Gautier Marion, the fifth generation of his family to run things, is currently in charge and has converted to organic production, working with respect to land of which he's the custodian. They have around 11 hectares of Gamay from which they make ripe reds fruit laden Beaujolais together with a couple of hectares of Chardonnay from which comes a perky white.
When to drink:
Enjoy it in conviviale company over some platters of cheese and charcuterie.
