Description
In a nutshell:
Rich with dark cherry aromas, a touch of earthiness, and fine tannins, this is a Barolo all about balance and finesse.
The lowdown:
This excellent value Barolo is from the Castagni vineyard, or cru, in the commune of La Morra and it shows off Michele Reverdito's skill to great effect. Aromas of black cherry, plum, and blackcurrant mingle with delicate floral notes of violet and iris. On the palate, it's all about balance - compact and complex, with a firm structure that nevertheless remains elegant and refined and leads to a seamless, polished finish.
The Producer:
Azienda Agricola Reverdito is a family-run estate in Piedmont known for its excellent Barolos and other regional wines. Michele Reverdito and his sister Sabina, who now run the estate, produced their first vintage in 2000, taking over from their father, who, rather than make his own wine, used to sell his grapes to neighbouring producers. Over the years, they've gradually acquired new parcels of vines, including prestigious locations like la Serra in the Barolo DOCG. Nebbiolo and Barbera dominate their plantings naturally, but they also craft some intriguing wines from the rarely seen Pelaverga. They're a small producer very much focused on quality.
When to drink:
Perfect drinking now or over the next few years, it's spot on with a wild mushroom risotto or slow-cooked lamb shank, both balancing its earthy depth and elegant structure.
Suitable for Vegans
