Description
Italy: Tuscany
Mellow & Rounded Red
Medium-Bodied - Oaked
Vegan - ABV 13.5% - 75.0cl
In a Nutshell:
Montalcino's answer to the Super-Tuscan - Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah with depth, freshness and sensible pricing.
The Lowdown:
Super-Tuscan style, Brunello postcode. Non Confunditur comes from Montalcino, but is made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah rather than Sangiovese. A short spell in French oak adds polish, but fruit is the star: black cherry, plum and blackberry, layered with tobacco, liquorice and spice. The palate is smooth and generous, lifted by balanced freshness that keeps it lively. It captures the all the character of its more famous cousins while keeping the price-tag refreshingly modest.
The Producer:
Dating back to the 16th century, Argiano is one of Montalcino's historic estates and a founding member of the Brunello Consorzio in 1967. Its Brunellos have long helped establish the reputation of the region, rooted in tradition yet steadily refined over time. In the 1990s the estate also turned to the Super-Tuscan movement, creating blends that showed the style could flourish outside Bolgheri. Today Argiano farms organically and continues to restore its historic cellars, balancing Brunello heritage with a more adventurous streak that keeps it among the most respected names in Montalcino.
When to Drink:
Made for Tuscan staples like ribollita, bean stews and grilled lamb, though it won't sulk alongside pizza either.
