Description
Italy: Piedmont
Fruity & Bright White
Dry - Light-Medium Body - Unoaked
Vegan - ABV 12.0% - 75.0cl
In a Nutshell:
A characterful Piedmonteste white made from the rare Arneis variety, bringing ripe orchard fruit, savoury lift and real charm.
The Lowdown:
Elegant and aromatic, but with real substance, Arneis is a Piedmontese treasure ideally suited to the sandy hillsides of Roero. It was once once teetering on the edge of extinction but is now happily resurrected. Made simply to let the grape speak for itself, it shows ripe pear and baked apple, a twist of almond and fennel, and a savoury edge that keeps it lively. Rounded yet fresh, with a subtle aniseed lift on the finish. Expressive and characterful shows why Arneis was worth saving.
The Producer:
Alasia, is part of one of Piedmont's largest and most forward-thinking co-operatives and situated in the Monferrato hills in the heart of Barbera d'Asti territory. Here they work with 230 grower members to source quality grapes from around 690ha of vineyards. Despite their size they have a real family run feel about them thanks largely to the husband and wife management/winemaking team of Claudio Manera and Lella Burdese. Founded in 1954 by Livio Manera, father of the current director and winemaker Claudio, over the past 60 years they've become a major winemaking force in Piedmont.
When to Drink:
At its best alongside food: seafood risotto, trout or herb-flecked dishes highlight its freshness and subtle savoury edge.
