The lowdown:
If Langham's Classic Cuvées were Yin and Yang, Culver would be the Yin - darker, richer, and more brooding than its Chardonnay-led counterpart. We call it The Generous One, thanks to a blend dominated by Pinot Noir. Savoury and spicy, it kicks off with hints of cherry, black pepper, and a touch of marzipan. On the palate, a creamy mousse and rich texture are lifted by bright acidity, keeping everything balanced. Fermented in a mix of stainless steel and old Bordeaux, Burgundy, and Champagne barriques, it gains layers of depth and complexity. Ripe and rounded, yet effortlessly relaxed, English sparkling with character.
The Producer:
Dorset-based Langham Wine Estate takes its lead from the Grower Champagne movement across the Channel, applying the same focus on terroir and low-intervention winemaking to English sparkling. Blessed with chalky soils and the West Country's long growing season, they can produce wines with real depth and character. Their approach in the vineyard is minimal intervention, allowing the fruit to speak for itself, while in the winery, the aim is to build richness and complexity without losing the freshness and precision that defines English fizz. With 34 hectares of south-facing Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier vines rooted in clay and flint over limestone, they have the raw materials to produce the quality of wines that stand among Englands best.
When to drink:
Crowd-pleasing, food-friendly and spot on with crispy chicken thighs, smoked salmon blinis, or mushroom arancini. Rich yet fresh, it's got just the right balance to keep both canapés and conversations flowing.
