Description
In a nutshell:
A vivid South African red that proves less can be more - pure, graceful, and shaped by place.
The lowdown:
Cinsault's usually the quiet one in the blend - but given its own stage and a well-chosen site, it has plenty to say. Hand-harvested, naturally fermented, and aged in mainly older oak barrels, this is a wine made with a light touch and a clear sense of purpose. It's delicate but expressive, with red cherry, spice and a bit of grip. No flashiness, no heavy-handed oak - just a beautifully judged red with a real sense of identity.
The Producer:
Wildeberg Wines, nestled in South Africa's Franschhoek valley, thrive under the watchful eye of winemaker JD Rossouw. Here they craft their wines from both local vineyards and those further afield. As part of South Africas Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) system, their practices are environmentally friendly, and their participation in the Cape's Old Vine Project highlights their commitment to preserving vines over 35 years old. JD also experiments with lesser-known varieties and cutting-edge techniques, showcased under their SKU (Strange Companjie Unlimited) label. They're good for a fresh and innovative take on things.
When to drink:
Serve it lightly chilled and let it glide - brilliant with charcuterie, roast veg, or nothing at all. It's the kind of red that disappears faster than planned.
Suitable for Vegans
