Description
In a nutshell:
A lightly oaked Chenin Blanc from Stellenbosch, with juicy apple, pear, and a hint of honey, plus a silky texture and fresh zing to keep it bright, smooth, and seriously drinkable.
The lowdown:
This Chenin's got loads going on - white peach, ripe apple, quince, and just a hint of fennel. The grapes come from old bush vines, so the flavours are nicely concentrated, and a bit of time in oak adds a smooth, rounded feel. You get a mix of stone fruit, honeyed notes, and a crisp, fresh finish that lingers. It's textured, balanced, and feels a really polished wine - there's proper bang for your buck here.
The Producer:
Waterkloof, established in 2004 by Paul Boutinot, is a bit of a favourite of those who appreciate wines made with care and a more than a touch of conscience. This family-run estate is proudly organic and biodynamic, even sporting the WWF Biodiversity Champion title. Perched on the Schapenberg hills overlooking False Bay, their vineyards benefit from cool breezes and a leisurely growing season, producing wonderfully balanced fruit. In the cellar, winemaker Nadia Langenegger allows the grapes to speak for themselves with minimal interference, creating wines that feel genuine, refined, and very much a taste of their unique surroundings.
When to drink:
Great with grilled seabass, lemony prawns, or roasted squash with herbs - the stone fruit and honeyed notes balance beautifully with fresh, zesty dishes or roasted veggies with a bit of sweetness.
Suitable for Vegans, Organic
