Description
In a nutshell:
A fragrant and succulent single vineyard Côtes de Nuits Burgundy from one of the premier villages.
The lowdown:
Vosne-Romanée, with its several grand and premier cru vineyards is one of the appellations that can lay claim to producing some of the finest examples of Pinot Noir in Burgundy. And Patrice Cacheux, the latest generation of the family to run his family's, estate is one of those making wines that fully live up to the appellation's much vaunted reputation. This delicious and elegant example is from the Les Chalandins vineyard in the North East of the appellation, not far from the Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot. Rich and ripe having spent plenty of time in new oak barriques there's plenty of ripe cherries on the nose giving a freshness which balances the rich sumptuousness extremely well. Altogether the prominent oak character is handled really well and it all leads to a fine and pleasingly aromatic finish.
When to drink:
A textbook example of good Vosne-Romanée, it's drinking well now and will do so into the late 2020s.
