Description
In a nutshell:
Zippy and packed with lively citrus and gooseberry, this is a bright, fresh Sauvignon Blanc from the rolling hills of Slovenian Styria.
The lowdown:
Sauvignon Blanc has made itself quite at home in Styria - a region that straddles both Austria and Slovenia - and this is a great example of how well it's doing on the Slovenian side of the border. Think Marlborough, but a little more restrained - it's got the tropical fruit and gooseberry character, but without shouting about it. Instead, there's a lovely balance, with fresh citrus zip and a clean, mineral finish that gives it poise without the steely edge you sometimes get from Sancerre. It's bright, expressive, and polished - and for this quality at this price, it's very hard to argue with.
The Producer:
Verus Vinogradi was founded in 2007 by three long-time friends - Danilo Snajder, Bozidar Grabovac, and Rajko Zlicar - who brought years of experience in the local wine trade to their own venture. Based in the town of Ormoz, their vineyards lie in Stajerska, one of Slovenias most important wine regions, known for its cool climate and steep slopes. It's perfect territory for fresh, aromatic whites, and Verus makes beautifully balanced examples of Furmint, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, and Pinot Gris. With a focus on purity, precision, and freshness, they've quietly earned a strong reputation as one of Slovenia's most consistently impressive modern wineries.
When to drink:
Try it with grilled chicken and salsa verde, sea bass in herby butter, or a spring veg risotto - anything green and fresh basically, and it'll be in its element.
Suitable for Vegans
