Description
In a nutshell:
A fresh and vibrant Sicilian white from for slopes of Mount Etna.
The lowdown:
The slopes and volcanic soils of Mount Etna together the southern Mediterranean climate of Sicily makes a winning combination when it comes to winemaking in this part of the world. Tornatore, a family business who are rooted in this area, specialise in making good wines from indigenous varieties. Their Pietrarizzo Bianco, from vineyards on the northern slopes, is made primarily from Carricante which is capable of making crisp and citrussy, ageworthy wines. The grapes for this are hand harvested and vinified in large oak barrels before a period of around 5 months ageing on its lees. The result is a wine with hints of grapefruit and peachiness on the nose which follow to the palate which has a bright minerality and rounded creaminess with touches of tropical fruits. A wine full of interest and complexity.
When to drink:
Its rounded character and vibrancy make it a good stand alone wine as well as one that pairs well with things like rich fish dishes and even light spicy asian recipes.
Suitable for Vegans
