Description
In a nutshell:
A juicy, dark-fruited Aussie Malbec, with blackberries, plum, and a touch of spice, all wrapped in smooth tannins and a fresh, easy-going style.
The lowdown:
Not from Argentina, this Aussie Malbec proves the grape can thrive beyond the Andes. Grown in the Swan Hill region, where low yields boost intensity, it's packed with vibrant dark fruit, violet aromas, and a hint of mint. A touch of French and American oak adds gentle spice and depth, but it stays bright and fresh, with soft tannins and crisp acidity keeping everything nicely balanced. Far from overblown, it's a juicy red with surprising elegance.
The Producer:
Boutinot, the guys responsible for the Listening Station range, is a big name in the UK's wine scene and are behind many labels seen on shelves up and down the country. Paul Boutinot kicked things off in 1980, starting with importing wines and soon partnering with winemakers around the globe. They've since gone on to produce their own wines from places like the Rhône Valley, Italy, South Africa and many other places. Their secret is in backing passionate winemakers who aren't afraid to push the envelope, always aiming for wines that really capture the essence of their regions. This, along with providing excellent value for money, is something they've really nailed.
When to drink:
Great with a barbie - think grilled steak, lamb chops, or smoky sausages - but it's just as happy with a cottage pie or veggie lasagne. Works well for solo sipping too.
Suitable for Vegans
