Description
In a nutshell:
A ripe, juicy, and youthful style of Merlot from the northern Italian regions of Trentino and Veneto.
The lowdown:
Merlot is a grape that has made itself right at home in northern Italy, and this delicious number is a fine example. Juicy and brightly fruited, it's all about ripe plums, soft berry fruit, and a touch of spice. No oak means it stays fresh and vibrant, while the ripeness of the fruit adds suppleness and depth. Medium-bodied with soft tannins, lightly herbal notes, and a lift of acidity, it's balanced, effortless, and straight to the point.
The Producer:
Cavit is a leading co-operative in the mountainous Trentino region of northeast Italy, starting as a consortium of grape growers in 1950. Today, they bring together 11 cellars, over 5,000 growers, and more than 6,000 hectares of vineyards across the region. Their influence is so significant that Cavit accounts for more than half the wine produced in Trentino. Theyve built a reputation for quality and consistency, making a wide range of wines that showcase the unique terroir of the area.
When to drink:
This juicy, supple Merlot is a natural with things like a classic margherita pizza, a rich aubergine lasagne, or a spread of charcuterie - fresh enough to cut through the richness.
