Description
France: Upper Loire
Crisp & Fresh White
Dry - Light-Medium Body - Unoaked
Vegan - ABV 13.0% - 75.0cl
In a Nutshell:
Classic Sancerre from limestone slopes - bright citrus, white flowers and a clean, chalky finish.
The Lowdown:
Limestone leads the way here, giving a lifted, straight-down-the-line style that feels very Bué. Aromas of grapefruit, lime and a hint of elderflower set things up; the palate is crisp and focused with a fine, powdery mineral thread. Lees time adds a gentle roundness without blunting the edge, so the fruit stays taut and refreshing. It's dry, precise and neatly balanced, finishing long and mineral with that clear sense of place that clearly defines Sancerre's limestone sites.
The Producer:
Based in the village of Bué, at the heart of prime Sancerre country, Domaine Sylvain Bailly is a long-established family estate now helmed by Sonia Bailly, her father Jacques, and her husband Matthieu. Their vineyards centre on Bué but extend across other nearby communes, giving them a fine spread of the region's classic terroirs - limestone, flint and clay. That diversity underpins the precision, texture and mineral edge that define their wines. The Bailly family's approach remains traditional and attentive, combining respect for the land with a steady, thoughtful hand in the cellar to bring out the natural character of each site.
When to Drink:
Spot on with goat's cheeses like Crottin de Chavignol or shellfish - the brisk acidity cuts richness and brightens briny flavours.
