Description
In a nutshell:
Bright and juicy, this soft, approachable Piedmont red is full of ripe berry fruit, gentle spice, and easy charm.
The lowdown:
Looking for a go-to Piedmontese red that's easy-drinking, food-friendly, and full of character? This Barbera fits the bill. Ripe, fresh, and packed with juicy fruit, yet still light on its feet, it's the definition of a crowd-pleaser. Matured in tank for six months before bottling, it's bursting with bright cherry and wild raspberry, with just a hint of spice. Soft tannins and lively acidity keep it all beautifully balanced, leading to a fresh, vibrant finish. Hard to go wrong with this one - effortless, approachable, and seriously drinkable.
The Producer:
San Silvestro, with over 150 years of history, is a well-established family estate in the commune of Novello, tucked away in the southwest corner of the Barolo region. Now run by cousins Paolo and Guido Sartirano, the winery combines its own 7 hectares of vineyards with fruit sourced from a network of trusted local growers across Barolo and beyond. The focus is firmly on sustainable practices, working with traditional Piedmontese varieties to create wines that are both authentic and approachable.
When to drink:
A perfect anytime red, this Barbera is spot on with classic margherita pizza, spaghetti alla puttanesca, or fennel-spiced Italian sausages. Its bright fruit and lively acidity make light work of rich, tomatoey dishes.
Suitable for Vegans
