A big and powerful organic Tuscan red from Montepulciano.
The lowdown:
Made from 100% Prugnolo Gentile (outside of Montepulciano known as Sangiovese) it's matured for 18 months in cask and a further 12 months in bottle. It's loaded with dark fruit, leather, spices and a certain earthiness around a deep cherry fruit core. With its medium body the firm, polished tannins really come to life as it builds to the finish.
The Producer:
Salcheto takes its name from the stream that runs through this hilly, 21-hectare property. Located in the heart of Montepulciano, theyre dedicated to Sangiovese, or Prugnolo Gentile, as its known locally and the way they treat it leads to wines that cover a kind of mid-ground between the robustness of Brunello and the elegance of Chianti. Under the management of Michele Manelli, Salcheto has become a self-sustainable estate and their cellars are a model of innovation and efficiency. All their wines are made without the use of sulphites and fermented using indigenous yeasts. Natural wines made with care, they all have a great deal of finesse, and effortless drinkability.

A good match to roast meats, game, or mature cheeses.
