Description
Brown, Mild & Old Ale
England: Surrey
ABV 6.0% - 50.0cl
In a Nutshell:
A bold nut brown ale with more heft than usual - nutty, warming, and surprisingly smooth.
The Lowdown:
Brown ale with attitude - nutty, warm and comforting, but with body and a subtle bite. Roasted malts bring the amber-brown colour and plenty of caramel sweetness to go with the nutty character, while hops stay well in the background. It's stronger than most brown ales and has more body, but it doesn't feel heavy - the finish stays rounded and malty, never cloying. Dangerously drinkable, given the strength.
The Brewery:
Ridgeway Brewing has been flying the flag for classic English beer since 2002, with founder Peter Scholey at the helm. Best known for their traditional IPAs, Bitters and ESBs, Ridgeway's beers strike a balance between heritage and the tastes of today - what they call "cutting edge tradition." Now under the wing of Crafty Brewing of Dunsfold, that philosophy looks set to flourish. The two breweries share a respect for slow-brewed, characterful ales, and their partnership promises to carry Ridgeway's legacy forward - not by reinventing the wheel, but by giving it a fresh spin for the next generation of drinkers.
